Rangers claim sees Ally McCoist suffer uncompromising Hotline pasting (2025)

Ianis Hagi ensured Celtic’s title champagne remains on ice until after the split thanks to his last gasp leveller for Rangers against Aberdeen.

But happy Hoops on the Hotline were still in party mood after seeing their side dismantle Kilmarnock 5-1 to move to within a point of their 55th league crown. A blistering opening 24 minutes on Saturday saw Brendan Rodgers players race into a 4-0 lead against the Ayrshiremen.

And Kenny Wilson, Moffat, said: “That was more like Celtic in the first half, blowing Killie away and scoring some great goals. Another title all but in the bag and the celebrations can begin and something proper to celebrate. Unlike a 0-0 draw at home that some Rangers fans think is worth celebrating. Even though they took the mickey out of Celtic for celebrating a draw away to Atalanta in the Champions League.”

Gordon Ashley, Ayr, said: “Celtic are on course for one of our greatest seasons ever. Rangers fans can deflect all they want with their Mickey Mouse cup games, they are not good enough to challenge us domestically and cannot qualify or win a point at our level in Europe.”

Greg Taylor was the pick of the bunch for Celtic against his former side - and showed just why Rodgers is still trying to convince him to sign a new deal. Stephen Mulhern, Dumbarton, said: “Greg Taylor showed the Celtic support just what they’ll be missing with his man of the match performance. Surely the reason he pulled out of the after match press conference was in case he was quizzed on his future. I would plead with Brendan Rodgers to make a last ditch effort for him to stay. With Kieran Tierney being given more game time at Arsenal, then the worry is him picking up yet another injury that would leave us desperately short in that position.”

Rangers followed-up Thursday’s heroic 10-man Europa League draw against Athletic Bilbao with another man down draw at Aberdeen where Hagi’s 95th minute leveller completed a stunning comeback from two goals down. Davie Wilson, Glasgow, said: “I don’t know whether to congratulate or castigate this Rangers side for continually giving themselves a mountain to climb. That’s seven times in the last 10 games they have gone two goals behind. But to come back again with 10 men against Aberdeen was very impressive.”

Liam Duane, Dumbarton, added: “Am I missing something here? Every time Rangers don't lose, it’s as if they've done something great. Get a grip, the best team in Scotland is Celtic.”

Peter Cooperwhite emailed: “So Brendan Rodgers got the ‘hunger game’ he wanted from Celtic against Kilmarnock. After watching Rangers’ usual Thursday night exploits he became the green eyed monster - jealous because he splashed out millions whereas Gers on a shoe string are in a good place again in Europe.”

Speaking of the Europa League and some callers are still fuming with Robin Propper over his red card against Bilbao. Ian Renton, Johnstone, said: “Propper would never have fouled his opponent if he knew how to tackle correctly. He should have used his left foot and swept the ball away by tackling from the front of the ball. The way he went in to the tackle was asking to get sent off as he was never going to connect with the ball first. I often wonder if tackling is ever practised in training, or is it just assumed everyone knows how to do it.”

Peter Lyons, Blantyre, also took issue with Ally McCoist’s criticism of the red card decision. He said: “So Super Ally goes ballistic his knowledge is atrocious. Come on Ally, keep up with rules of football. If Propper had made that tackle in the penalty box it would have been a red card and a penalty. He stopped a goalscoring opportunity.”
